“A bright, sunny, early spring morning.
Trees are budding and the leaves are uncurling.
Lucy stretches and wiggles around on the branch of her tree.
She is excited about starting a new season as a leaf on the giant maple tree.”

The story of Lucy, a leaf in a Maple tree and the things she sees and learns during her time in the tree between Spring and Fall. She shares her story with her friend Larry, a very wise leaf. When they drop off the tree in the fall, the wind helps them go tumbling down the street.

Pam Dixon Oertel, Author
Pam Dixon Oertel has always been an avid reader, starting about 8 years of age with her mother’s True Stories magazine.
She lived in Limestone, ME for the first 30 years of her life. Then moved to Bangor, ME where she met her husband. She finished her working career in 2020 and turned to knitting and sewing for Relief Crafters of America, a caring group of people who craft for animal habitats throughout the states. And of course, more reading.
After retirement she was standing at a window watching the leaves blow down the street and thought there was a story there. The thought stayed in her head for a couple of years until she finally put it on paper and the result was Lucy Leaf.
Elizabeth Overlock, Illustrator
Elizabeth Overlock’s first work of art was created as a 3-year-old, when she drew her own impression of the camel on her mom’s pack of cigarettes.
Betty O., as she is known to her friends, has been drawing, painting and creating ever since. She has made a career of art, from sign painting and graphic design to retail visual display. The latter talent given free rein in her own delightful arts and antique store in York, Maine.
While Betty, is now, for the most part, retired from the world of retail endeavors, art is still very much a part of her life…drawing, painting, quilting….giving joy to the creator and all who appreciate the arts.
